Free Federal Financial Aid

The cost of career school, college or university education is a matter of great concern for many students and their families. Without financial assistance, most full-time undergraduate students are unable to bear their education costs. Hence it would be wise for the students to apply for free federal financial aid so as to be able to pay their educational costs.

The free application for federal student aid or FAFSA is what is known as the free federal financial aid form. All the student information required to receive federal student loans, federal campus-based aid and federal Pell grants is provided by the FAFSA. Completing FAFSA or the free application for federal student aid form is the first step to get funds for higher studies.

To apply for Federal student aid, the only application required is the FAFSA, which has to be filled by the parents and students. Once the total cost of education is determined, an individual is required to fill out a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). FAFSA will also determine an individual’s eligibility for federal loans, scholarships, work-study programs and other kinds of financial aid. FAFSA can be applied for both online and offline. Before signing the application electronically, one will require a Personal Identification Number (PIN). In case of a dependent student, both he and his parents must sign the FAFSA prior to submission. An individual will receive his SAR or the Student Aid Report in just five days if he applies online.

Once the FAFSA is completed either in the paper form or online, the Department determines whether all important information has been provided and ascertains the information with several federal agencies, such as the Selective Service System, Social Security Administration and the Naturalization and Immigration Service. The applicants may even be asked to provide additional information, if necessary.

After the FAFSA has been processed by the Department, the student then receives the Student Aid Report, which informs of the status of the federal aid.
